Phone scam, watch out.

So today I got a phone call from the correctional facility in Perris. It was collect but I figured what if it was my cousin. You know the one, you all have a cousin like that. Anyhow, it turns out I didn't know the inmate making the collect call, so, conveniently, the person on the phone asked if I wanted the charges removed, all I had to do was call a number that started with *721(xxx)xxx-xxxx. Not having been born yesterday I didn't. Turns out, if you dial *721 and then a phone number, it gives access to someone else to charge calls to your phone. Inmates, with all this time on their hands, no pun intended, just dial randomly figuring eventually, someone will fall for it. So no matter who calls or what they say, don't dial it. Any government agency, hospital or emergency service would have a direct way of contacting you and never ask you to dial a number with an access code like that.
I should have known something was up when I could hear the commotion from the jail in the background.

Cross posted, apologies in advance.
